Hello from Tie-Dye Drama
Welcome to our blog! We're looking forward to keeping you all informed about our exciting trip ahead!
Who are we?
We're a group of four emerging theatre practitioners who are passionate about facilitating opportunities for young people to express themselves creatively through drama. We are travelling to Sri Lanka in March to June 2014 to volunteer at a number of charities by offering drama projects with an educational slant.
Individually we have various experiences that influence our practice. Many of these have been gained during our study of drama at Manchester University in the UK. Others have been gained from working on projects in the UK and abroad and include facilitating drama and music workshops in kids holiday camps, schools and hospices; working with leading companies that bring drama into non-traditional settings like prisons, young offenders institutions and homelessness help centres; and teaching English as a foreign language.
Why Tie-Dye?
Each tie-dye print is vibrant, colourful and unique: this is how we see our participants. We believe that each participant should have the opportunity to let their creativity and individuality shine, rather than being restricted to right and wrong answers. This is something Tie-Dye Drama aims to focus on in our workshops. By providing a space for young people to express themselves creatively, we hope to help them recognise and embrace their own unique and wonderful qualities. We are therefore excited about developing opportunities for participants to build their own self-confidence, using theatre as a tool of empowerment to help them work towards their own positive futures.
