Introducing Tea Leaf Vision

We're really excited to be visiting Tea Leaf Vision on our trip. This much-needed charity offers a free education programme for the young adults living on the tea plantations. On these estates, a tea picker is expected to pick an unachievable 18 kilos of tea per day in order to receive the full salary of £3 per day, so the average take home pay is often far less. There are consequentially some deep-rooted social issues within the communities here, and Tea Leaf works hard to help its students challenge some of these issues such as the 85% alcoholism level amongst men and the 83% level of domestic abuse against women.Equipping students with skills ranging from business and English language to speech and advocacy, as well as vital confidence in their abilities, the Tea Leaf Vision school enables students to find work off the tea plantations and get paid a reasonable wage in fair conditions.

Tea Leaf Vision thus aims to help develop an educated, professional and empowered young population able to lead social transformation within tea plantation communities. We're aiming to run a few different drama projects at the school, including exploring ways to integrate drama into the classroom to support the curriculum, as well as an exciting project for a group of students to produce an issue-based performance for their annual talent-show.

Watch this space for more details of these exciting projects!
